New Delhi: The federal government has allowed Serum Institute of India (SII) to produce 32.4 lakh doses of its COVID-19 jab Covovax beneath the model title Nuvaxovid to the US, which would be the first vaccine to be exported to the nation by any Indian producer, official sources stated on Friday.
The cargo is more likely to be dispatched on July 3, an official supply informed PTI.
In a letter to the federal government on June 29, Prakash Kumar Singh, director (authorities and regulatory affairs) at SII had sought permission to export Covovax to the US.
The sources stated will probably be the primary occasion of any Indian producer exporting any vaccine — Covid or non-Covid — to the US.
“It’s a matter of pleasure for us and our nation that in step with clarion name of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s ‘Making in India for the world’ and beneath management of our CEO, Dr Adar C Poonawalla, our made-in-India world class Covovax vaccine would be the first life-saving vaccine of our nation to be exported to the US of America,” Singh had stated in his communication, in keeping with an official supply.
